Annular BOP

Annular blowout preventer (Annular BOP) is a special mechanical device used to seal, control, and monitor oil & gas well. It is called annular due to its structure; it surrounds top of the wellbore in a shape of a ring or an annulus. When well takes a kick and preventer is open, well fluids force mud flow up to the wellbore. Annular preventer closes drill pipe, drill collars and any shape of tubes in the well. Also, Annular BOP also can close open hole, a hole with no tubulars at all. When the driller closes the Annular preventer, flow stops, which diverse flow to the choke line. Driller usually closes annular preventer first. Annular BOP is placed on the top of ram preventers. Annular BOP consists of main body, packing element, elastomeric annular body, metal inserts, packing unit bore, piston chamber, ports, piston, removable head, and BOP bore.  

Annular BOP performs its duty by sealing wellbore. BOP Accumulators provide hydraulic pressure for operation and testing on Annular BOP. Annular BOP applies hydraulic pressure (hydraulic fluids) to open and close. Extend port and retract port on the annular BOP housing provide means of connecting hydraulic line. BOP hydraulic line consists of hammer unions, high-pressure pipes, high-pressure valves, and BOP hydraulic hose. BOP hose is a special type of armored hoses which can withstand extremely high temperature during period required as per industry standards. Annular BOP is designed, fabricated, and tested as per API Spec. 16A.
